Reduced Your Amazon s3 Bill via Jetpack Photon

I have been using Amazon s3 to store and serve my blog images. i did to reduce my shared web hosting bandwidth consumption so my host don’t kicked me out as i am not yet ready to move to a Dedicated server nor a VPS.
Although s3 pricing is cheap, your bill will quickly add up if you own a relatively high trafficked website.
Amazon s3 bill is calculated base on the number of requests (GET, PUT, POST etc.) as well as the storage size consumed by your files. to reduce the number of request which in turn reduces my bills, i had to set cache with a far expiration date for my images.

I activated Jetpack photon for this WordPress blog and discovered that my Amazon s3 bill was further reduced by over 80%.

Incase you do not know;

Photon is a free image acceleration service that cache and serve website image through the WordPress.com content delivery network.

the images delivered by Photon are cached forever on their server. so long Photon is active on my blog, no additional request is sent to Amazon s3 server which in turn reduces my bill.

Images have been found to be the biggest consumption of server bandwidth. Even if you don’t use Amazon s3, you should consider using Photon for your WordPress website to reduce bandwidth.

Don’t miss out!
