Change Feedburner URL From Feedproxy.google.com To Website Permalink

For those of us using feedburner to burn and serve feeds, you will agree with me they are quite impressive particularly as they are free unlike other feed services and also have some great features.
One of such feature that make feedburner lovable is the E-mail subscriptions service, it make it easy for users to subscribe to your website feed and receive E-mail newsletter when a new blog post or content is publish on your website.
If you are very observant, you will notice feedburner do alter your website (post) URL to non-SEO friendly URL/permalink structure feedproxy.google.com. for example, the primary URL would look like this:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/example-blog/XwypD

And the single post URL would look like this:

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tech4sky/~3/fpGRKs6epEg/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

Feedburner URL permalink structure

Most webmasters and Google critic do use this as medium to bring feedburner to disrepute, they are just ignorant of the truth. the reason for that unfriendly URL is for Google feedburner to be able to track:

  • Subscribers — daily totals and history
  • Feed reader applications used to access your feed
  • Uncommon uses, including re-syndication
  • Reach — unique number of people who view or click your feed content

If you want to disable the use of this non-seo friendly URL, it means also you won’t be able to track your feed. follow the steps below to de-activate the it

  1. Login to your feedburner account
  2. On the feed dashboard, go to “Analyze” –> “Configure Stats”
    Configure stats - feedburner
  3. Untick or uncheck Item views and Item link clicks
  4. Afterward, hit the save button.

The changes will take effect when a new item is added to your feed (when you add a new content to your blog or website).
