How to Rename a Bucket on Amazon s3

Recently, I was implored by a friend to move his blog media files from Dropbox to a bucket on Amazon S3.

He gave me a name for the bucket but I made a spelling mistake. I wasn’t aware that there isn’t an option to rename bucket on S3.

To complicate issues, I couldn’t risk going through the stress of deleting the files and then the bucket (firstly, files inside a bucket need to be deleted before you are able to delete the bucket) because I already uploaded the media files to the bucket

If you find yourself in such a dilemma, the only solution is for you to:

  1. Create a new bucket with the correct name spelling
  2. Check or tick all the files in the misspelt bucket, right-click and copy
Copy files - Amazon s3 bucket
  3. Navigate to the new folder, right-click and paste.
    Paste file to S3 bucket

I hope in the future, the folks at Amazon S3 will introduce an option to rename bucket.

Don’t miss out!
